Peer support is extremely important in every facet of our lives. It goes beyond being a good friend, because sometimes your peers are people you've never met.

As I was recording this piece it struck me that I wanted to release it right away without worrying about editing or tagging etc. It is 9/11 and while I didn't even intend it, I think because of that and National Suicide Awareness month, it's best if I post it right away. You never know who out there could use a little story like this.

Let me know what you think.

Go to AbbyBolt.com for more information on this and many other controversial subjects surrounding moral courage in the workplace and what it means to Lead with F.I.R.E.

Email me at abby@upinflames.org if you have an experience you would like to share or are in need of a resource. If I can't help, I will point you in the direction of someone who can.

Abby:

Hey there everyone and thanks for being back with me with another episode of Up in Flames. I'm your host, but more importantly your advocate Abby Bolt. Today I wanted to share with you something that I shared recently on the Her Brotherhood page on social media that really kind of surprised me. How many people responded and shared it. In fact it's the impressions from it are over a million right now and I'm just in shock, but I can see how much it's needed in the world. It came up as like a memory of something that I had shared in the past and it always speaks to me and I thought, well I'll just share it again because it's been awhile and never gets old. It's a piece from the a hundred acre wood and Winnie the Pooh stories that we all know from childhood and it features our favorite little Piglet, Pooh and of course Eeyore. Now throughout this I think everyone struggles with which one they are and what point in their life. Are they Pooh, Piglet or Eeyore? And I think that we all ebb and flow between all of them, but the important thing is, is that we take the lesson from stories like these and apply them in our lives. So I want to share it with you just like I shared it with my son and I'll read it just like that. It occurred to Pooh and Piglet that they hadn't heard from Eeyore in several days. So they put on their hats and coats and trotted across the a hundred acre wood to Eeyore's stick house. Inside the house was Eeyore."Hello Eeyore", said Pooh."Hello Pooh. Hello Piglet", said Eeyore in a glum sounding voice."We just thought we check on you", said Piglet."Because we hadn't heard from you and so we wanted to know if you're okay." Eeyore was silent for a moment."Am I okay?", he asked."Eventually. Well, I don't know to be honest. Are any of us really Okay? That's what I asked myself. All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet is that right now I feel rather sad and alone and not much fun to be around at all. Which is why I haven't bothered you. Because you wouldn't want to waste your time hanging out with someone who is sad and alone and not much fun to be around at all. Would you now?" Pooh looked at Piglet and Piglet looked at Pooh. And they both sat down one on either side of Eeyore's stick house. Eeyore looked at them in surprise."What are you doing?""We're sitting here with you", said Pooh."Because we are your friends and true friends don't care if someone is feeling sad or alone or not... Much fun to be around at all. True friends are there for you anyway and so here we are.""Oh", said Eeyore."Oh." And then the three of them sat there in silence. And while Pooh and Piglet said nothing at all, somehow almost imperceptibly Eeyore started to feel a very tiny, little bit better because Pooh and Piglet were there. No more, no less. Such as short, simple story and it really gets me every time. I hope that it touches you in your life some way. And helps you either appreciate the friends that you have or maybe be a better friend to someone who's in need. I'm recording this on 9/11 and I think today is just a lot of reflection and I know that a lot of people are suffering, not just the first responders. A lot of people. And thinking about where I was that day. The people that have been lost, the feelings in between. Still feels as fresh as it did then. Even more now that we've lost even more people. And expect to lose more because of the after effects of working at 9/11 and being near 9/11 I usually don't release these episodes until Thursdays, but I think I'm just going to release it right now because who doesn't need a little bit of Pooh and Piglet in their life? So that's all I have for you today. I hope that, I hope that it spoke to you and I hope that you guys come with me on this adventure and lead with fire and let's never ever forget
